Soul Tree is a talking tree found in Dread Slough. Ruth Bough has been feeding the souls of her victims to the tree, in order to create the mindless pigmen. Soul Tree, however, is an ancient entity that no longer wishes to live. It desperately tries to find a way to die, to the point of holding its breath for a century, to no avail. The tree could not ask for help as no one could hear or understand what the tree said, that is until Cl'erns Qui'g arrived.
Ruth Bough brought Cl'erns to Dread Slough with the intention of feeding his soul to the Soul Tree. The brand on Cl'erns' neck prevents his soul from being stolen, and also allows him to understand the tree. Upon realizing this, it asks Cl'erns to kill it by finding and burning its three tap roots.

- According to Essex Mast, stabbing someone with a branch of the Soul Tree can take away that person's soul from their body.
