Pigmen is a humanoid race created by dark magic rituals which turn human into monstrous pig-like creatures.

Details[]

Pigmen lost most of their humanity and cannot speak. They are hostile creatures, attack human on sight and in turn, shunned and feared by most communities. Many people believe that that those who are kidnapped during pigmen raids, are dragged into swamps and sewn up into cocoons of hog flesh and turned into new pigmen.[1]

Pigmen travel in packs and prefer to use simple weapons such as cleavers and throwing rocks. They hunt and eat all manner of creatures, including human.[2] As such, their settlements are littered with carcasses, bones, personal belongings of their victims. Some pigmen even collect human tongues, stringing them together into necklaces.[3] They are found commonly in swampland, especially Pigeater Bog.[2]

It is revealed that Ruth Bough has been kidnapping men that she deems despicable, chopping them up, and implant their brains and bones[4] into bodies made up of stitched-up pig parts. Then she feeds the souls of these poor creatures to the Soul Tree, making them mindless in order to control their minds.[5]

If Cl'erns Qui'g freed the pigmen souls, they regain their sentience and start to intermingle with human. They can be encountered in towns and farmsteads as mercenaries, farmers or ordinary citizens. Mailboxes, tools, beds, chairs, books, etc. also appear in their settlements. Miss Metrewpy even published an etiquette book for pigmen. Some pigmen, however, have a hard time adjusting to the new reality and turn to lives outside the law. These start to form gangs and some might end up on bounty boards.

After their souls are freed, the following text is added to the sign: "UPDATED WITH NEW INFORMATION: Just recently, across the West, Pigmen have begun to speak, think, and use tools like humans once more. Trappers should take note that most are still aggressive and won't hesitate to eat anyone they catch. STAY ALERT."
