Pigman Journey[]
During the A Familiar Face Random Encounter, Essex Mast tells Cl'erns Qui'g that he is looking for an immortal named Aleph.
Protector Journey[]
It is revealed that Essex plans to steal Aleph's immortality by using a branch of the Soul Tree to take his soul. When Across Rivers asks why Essex doesn't steal the soul of any other members of the Twenty-One, Essex replies that it's not possible to steal someone's soul if they cannot be hurt, and somehow only Aleph is weakened and vulnerable.
Oneirist Journey[]
During a vision, Constance discovers that Aleph and Heathen visited the Wanderers, and with their help, forged the brand. Using the brand, which could transfer one's soul to another's body, Aleph possessed five individuals. The plan was for him to experience the struggles of these mortals, therefore experiencing humanity again and regaining mortality.
