Weird West Wiki

Absolutionists or the Absolutionist Church is the major religious faction in the West, whose mission is to purge the land of evil and protect their flocks from occult threats. Absolutionists worship the twin spirits Yeb and Inun, and revere their prophet Gavan. They believe "everything is part of a great cycle of life and death", and to go against the cycle is to threaten the world itself.[1]

Details[]

Absolutionist is a religion brought by settlers from the Old Home[2] and expanded widely across the Weird West. Its presence is found in most towns, in the form of their imposing white spirit halls. Each hall is led by one or more clerics and guarded by Devotees, the armed wing of the Church. In order to finance their widespread operations, spirit halls have to rely on local mines, towns, and farms.[1] They also offer in-home blessing service and sell Shepherd's Grace, their own white wine made from a variety of grapes from the Old Home.

Absolutionists and Oneirists have been enemies ever since people settled in the West,[1] but about a year prior to the events of Weird West, Oneirists started to attack spirit halls and slaughter their flocks, including women and children. Desperate to protect themselves, the Absolutionists have found a way to turn some of their devotees into werewolves in order to fight back the Oneirist threat. These devotee-turned werewolves are called Gavan's Hounds.
